Mental Health Support Teams in Schools

North Lincolnshire Clinical Commissioning Group (NLCCG) has been successful in securing funding to introduce Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) into all secondary schools, post 16 provisions and special schools in North Lincolnshire. There is also potential to support Year 6 and Year 6/7 transition.

Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) have been jointly developed by the Department for Education and NHS England. MHSTs are intended to provide early intervention on some mental health and emotional wellbeing issues, such as mild to moderate anxiety, as well as helping staff within a school or college setting to provide a ‘whole school approach’ to mental health and wellbeing. The teams will act as a link between schools and local children and young people’s mental health services.

MHSTs will be a new service / team, which will be provided by Rotherham and Doncaster NHS Foundation Trust (RDASH) – they will have key links to Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) but will be seen as a separate provision.

In North Lincolnshire, by 2022, we will have two MHSTs which will be made up of;

  • Eight Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHP)
  • Four Senior Practitioners / Supervisors
  • Two Senior Therapists / Supervisors
  • Team Leader / Manager
  • Administration Support

The new provision is intended to compliment services already in place.
